Message From The President Dr. Elrie C. Tucker

The Quebec Black Medical Association celebrates its twentieth anniversary. Most business analysts  are of the opinion that the hurdles of the first three to five years are crucial in the life of any new venture. Not only did the QBMA succeed in the crossing of the “five year” barrier but it also managed to make its way to the end of a second decade.

In those past twenty years, the QBMA has helped close to 500 bright, motivated and socially involved young people to have access to various careers in the field of health care. Many of them are now active in direct care or in research within universities or private firms. The Quebec Black Medical Association was happy and proud to help them realize their dreams of a worthy career.

There are multiple reasons for a success of such a magnitude. First, I must thank all the pioneers, those of my colleagues who have sufficiently believed in this project to put their reputation on the line and join the very first Board of Directors. They have devoted countless time and energy to help start and run the QBMA. Many of them still serve on the Board while others continue to help otherwise.

My gratitude also goes to all those high level representatives from the private and public sectors who spontaneously and generously accepted to be our first financial contributors. All we could provide then was our goodwill and a true analysis of the hardships visible minorities have, and still are confronted with. Our audacity in contacting them along with their trust in this new unknown organization were two ingredients that permitted the QBMA’s inception.

Much of the merit also goes to the students who benefited from the Scholarship Program. Many of them have made their way to graduate and post-graduate studies thus confirming both the validity of our initial decision and that of our selection process during all those years. They are the very reason of our existence and their successes will serve as a reminder that the QBMA must and will continue to help. They enhance our overall credibility, which is an essential ingredient for any fund-collecting organization.

To all those who were there at the beginning and to those who joined at any time during the past twenty years, on behalf of the Board and all the students, I wish to extend my warmest thanks. Without you it would have not been possible and with you, I feel it is now possible to go even further than we ever dreamed of and grant a growing number of talented young people an access to rewarding careers.

Sincerely,

Elrie C. Tucker, M.D., C.M., F.C.R.S. (C) .

Thank you QBMA!

It's a great and wonderful way to help those who are in need. As we all know, the cost of books can be very expensive. This is my way of saying thank you to the QBMA; I am grateful for the help they provided Tiffany in an needful time. Thank you very much once again. Keep up the good work!
